The 5mm Bernina needle plate is for sewing lightweight fabrics with a more supportive base yet still allowing a zig zag of up to 5mm; and the straight stitch Bernina needle plate is perfect for fine detail sewing and quilting where it's important for full fabric support for seaming and topstitching.
