What You Need

  • BERNINA Binder Attachment #88 (38 mm)

  • (required)

  • Unfolded bias tape (38 mm / scant 1-1/2")

  • BERNINA 5.5 mm or 9 mm sewing machine

Step-by-Step Instructions

1) Attach the Binder #88

  • Remove your current accessory (if attached).

  • presser foot holder / screw mount.

  • Confirm the binder is aligned so the tape channel feeds smoothly toward the needle.

2) Install Binder Foot #95 or #95C

  • Binder Foot #95 / #95C to your machine (this foot is required for correct stitching and control).

3) Prepare and Insert the Bias Tape

  • 38 mm (scant 1-1/2").

  • Trim the tape end at a slight angle to make feeding easier.

  • Feed the tape into the binder’s channel and pull it through until it exits near the needle.

4) Insert the Fabric Edge

  • Slide the fabric edge into the binder so the tape wraps evenly around it.

  • Keep the fabric consistently aligned as it feeds into the attachment.

5) Stitch the Binding

  • edge stitch.

  • Sew slowly at first to confirm alignment.

  • Guide the project gently—let the binder do the work.

Best Practices (To Get Great Results)

For Smooth Feeding

  • Start with a slower speed and increase once the tape and fabric feed smoothly.

  • Hold the bias tape lightly so it stays flat as it enters the binder.

For Corners and Curves

  • For curves, sew slowly and guide the fabric gradually—don’t pull.

  • For corners, stop with the needle down, pivot carefully, and continue (practice on scraps first).

Test First

  • Always test with your tape + fabric combo before binding the final project.

  • Adjust stitch length and needle position if needed for best coverage.
