Why Buy A Sebo Vacuum

Welcome to SEBO: the world's leading manufacturer of high-quality vacuum cleaners.

In 1978, two engineers, with a vision of a cleaning system unlike anything ever produced, founded SEBO in Velbert, Germany. Since then, SEBO has become the manufacturer of the finest quality commercial-grade vacuum cleaners in the world. We've sold more than four million units to markets in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America, with cumulative sales exceeding one billion dollars. We also manufacture private-label machines for some of the top distributors in the world and are the preferred vacuum cleaner of the top hotels, hospitals, universities and government institutions worldwide . . . even The White House and Buckingham Palace! And now, our state-of-the-art cleaning technologies are available for use in your home.

SEBO vacuums have received awards and recognition from Better Homes and Gardens, Consumer's Digest, TIME, Real Simple, Wired Test and other magazines. Our future-forward, technological breakthroughs in the science of cleaning are without precedent in our industry.

SEBO's first shipment to the U.S.A. was in 1979 for commercial cleaning customers, followed by its duo-P Cleaning Powder in 1984, and its household vacuums were launched in 1997.
SEBO was the WORLD'S FIRST Vacuum Manufacturer to Introduce:

  • An integrated suction hose on an upright vacuum.
  • A timing-belt-driven brush with clutch protection.
  • A dust bag that fills from the top, followed by a microfilter and then the motor.
  • An electrostatic microfilter.
  • An electronic brush control and safety shut off.
  • A soft bumper on a canister vacuum, which protects furniture and walls from damage.
  • An electronically controlled automatic height adjustment, S-class filtration, and a detail wand with telescopic hose. To this day, the most modern vacuum cleaner in the world!
SEBO's past accomplishments point to quality products and a dedication to serving customers well. Try a SEBO vacuum in your own home, and compare it to your current machine. You will see the difference a SEBO vacuum makes in cleaning performance and overall ease of use!

Vacuum Bags are Hygienic and Improve Filtration, Suction and Cleaning Performance - Filter bags are essential components of high-performance vacuum cleaners because they hold virtually all the dirt captured by the machines, which improves the effectiveness and useful life of vacuum microfilters. This is true because only a tiny fraction of particles escape from SEBO's three-layer bags, but any such particles are then easily trapped by highly effective microfilters.
SEBO's "top-fill" bags also ensure continuously strong suction because dirt enters from the top, deposits at the bottom, accumulates upward, and air exits through the sides, which allows unimpeded airflow as they fill to capacity. Also, all SEBO bags are large capacity, so they hold about 10 times the debris volume, as compared to the debris capacity of dirt containers found on typical bagless vacuums.

Lastly, changing SEBO bags takes just a few seconds, is easy to do, and a "sealing cap" covers the opening, which keeps dust sealed inside to maintain excellent hygienic conditions. And for users with allergies or asthma, it is important to have vacuums, like SEBOs, that feature superb filtration systems with quality filter-bag technology.
Bagless Vacuums are Not Hygienic and Diminish Filtration, Suction and Cleaning Performance - Without bags to hold nearly all the captured dirt, the microfilters on bagless vacuums quickly clog from excessive dirt build-up and must be replaced often or a loss of suction and cleaning effectiveness will occur. And bagless vacuum microfilters are expensive, usually costing more than a multi-year supply of SEBO's large capacity filter bags. And perhaps the most annoying problem is that dust and other allergens become airborne when emptying bagless vacuum dirt containers.

Why are Bagless Vacuums So Popular? Bagless vacuums outsell bagged vacuums in today's USA marketplace. This should not happen, if one considers the substantial advantages bagged vacuums offer, as compared to bagless machines. But there is a reasonable explanation for this situation. Simply put, bagless vacuums are popular for two reasons: 1) the perception that money is saved by not buying vacuum bags, and 2) it is easier to empty a bagless dirt container than to replace a full vacuum bag. Slick manufacturer advertising campaigns further support these notions. In reality, however, these perceived advantages are more than offset by the high cost and inconvenience of frequent microfilter changes, diminished filtration and suction performance, the shortened life of vacuum motors caused by clogged microfilters, and the hassle of emptying perpetually full dirt containers.

Bags are Better! – Top-fill, three and four-layer bags are an integral part of SEBO's filtration system because they hold virtually all dirt captured by the vacuum, which improves the effectiveness and useful life of the microfilters. They also ensure continuously strong suction because dirt enters from the top, deposits at the bottom, accumulates upward, and air exits through the sides, which allows unimpeded airflow as they fill to capacity. And they can be sealed when full, so no dust can escape into the air during bag removal and disposal.

In contrast, without bags to hold nearly all the captured dirt, the microfilters on bagless vacuums quickly clog from excessive dirt build-up and must be replaced often, or a loss of suction and cleaning effectiveness will occur. In addition, dust and other allergens become airborne when emptying bagless dirt containers. Lastly, bagless vacuum microfilters are expensive, usually costing more than a multi-year supply of SEBO filter bags.

Pre-motor Filters – Pre-motor filters clean suction air after it passes through the filter bag, but before it passes over the vacuum motor. Cooling the motor with clean air is important because this increases useful life expectancy.
S-class Exhaust Microfilters – S-class Exhaust Microfilters (S = “Schwebstoff” = airborne particles) are made from electrostatically charged micro-fiber material, which attracts and captures dust particles from the airflow of the vacuum after it passes over the motor to cool it. This means that exhaust air is cleaned to the highest level. The S-class Standard requires filters to absorb greater than 99.9% of particles down to 0.3 microns in diameter. For comparison, 100 microns is the diameter of a human hair. Their advantages are a relatively open texture that allows smoother airflow for better suction performance, a longer life expectancy, and they cost less than HEPA filters.

S-class Pre-motor Microfilters – S-class Pre-motor Microfilters (S =
“Schwebstoff” = airborne particles) are made from electrostatically charged micro-fiber material, which attracts and captures dust particles from the airflow of the vacuum before it passes over the motor to cool it. Cooling the motor with super-clean air increases motor life and reduces the possibility of maintenance, even after many years of use.
HEPA Pre-motor Microfilters (Optional) – HEPA Pre-motor Microfilters ("High Efficiency Particulate Air") remove a minimum of 99.97% of all airborne particulate matter down to 0.3 microns in diameter. Because these filters use small grid-like structures to capture dust particles, dirt build-up clogs the airflow pathway sooner than what is expected from S-class microfilters. However, SEBO’s HEPA microfilters are sold along with four-layer "Ultra-bags," which provide highly effective filtration before the airflow goes through the HEPA microfilter, greatly increasing life expectancy and reducing the potential of diminished air flow.
Exhaust Filters – Exhaust filters clean the air emitted by the vacuum motor.

Buy Your New Vacuum with a Green and Clean Conscience!

There is more to being environmentally aware than just looking at energy ratings. . . friends of the environment also want their new appliances to be responsibly manufactured. Everyone knows to look for efficiency when it comes to buying new appliances for the home, but what about the amount of energy consumed in their production and distribution? Sometimes this can far exceed the energy used during the entire lifespan of a product.

Made in Germany, using locally sourced materials and components, SEBO vacuum cleaners are built to last and are manufactured in an environmentally responsible way that reduces waste and uses fewer resources. Plastic is recycled into new components, and the SEBO factory is completely self-sustaining with respect to electricity. Its combined heat and power system produces the electricity required to run the factory's machinery. The warm air and water created by the system's generators are then used to heat the factory and warehouse.
For SEBO, reducing the carbon footprint of a product starts in the initial design process. An important consideration is to ensure that products pack into the smallest possible cartons, and that carton sizes allow the maximum number of machines to fit on a pallet. Most SEBO packaging is made from unbleached recycled cardboard, and waste paper from the offices is shredded and re-used for packing. Even deliveries are carefully planned, to ensure delivery trucks are running economically and are filled to capacity.

Water resources are also conserved at the SEBO factory. Rainwater is collected from the roof, then filtered and stored, to be used in production and within the factory washrooms, saving the unnecessary use of treated drinking water.

The factory and offices are designed to use natural light as much as possible, avoiding artificial lighting and the associated power consumption. And work hours are scheduled to make use of daylight hours; this also improves the working environment for employees.

The U.S. retail vacuum cleaner market exceeds $4 billion per year, but 44% of vacuum owners have purchased a new machine in just the past two years. Think of how many fairly new vacuums now consume space in our landfills! SEBO vacuums are made in Germany and are built to last for many years, which reduces landfill waste and uses fewer resources.
How many vacuums, dishwashers or refrigerators have you purchased in the last two years? Well, if you are like many Americans, you may have purchased as many as two or three vacuums, but your other major appliances have not yet needed to be replaced. Shouldn't vacuums be as durable and long lasting as your other major appliances? SEBO vacuums save ordinary residential users hundreds of dollars by providing excellent performance for ten to fifteen years or more, so six or seven "disposable vacuums" must be purchased during the average life expectancy of just one SEBO machine.
SEBO is so confident about the quality of its vacuums, it offers a standard factory warranty of five years on both non-wear parts and labor. SEBO’s AUTOMATIC X model includes a lifetime warranty on the belts.
When using disposable vacuums, dirty air can escape through leaks in the seals and seams of the machines. But with tight seals throughout, SEBO vacuums are ideal for users with allergies or asthma or to simply improve indoor air quality.
Specifically, how are SEBO vacuums different from typical vacuums? The chart below provides several examples.

SEBO America or an authorized dealer must approve and provide all warranty work. SEBO’s customer service phone number is 800-334-6614 and representatives are available Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm MST, or such repair requests can be e-mailed to

Customer service is available to advise you on self-help (such as clog removal) or to arrange any repair services. SEBO machines are designed to be easy to maintain, so most “problems” can be resolved over the phone or by watching SEBO’s How-to Videos available on this web site. Before phoning SEBO for service, please ensure you have checked for clogs, fitted a new bag, replaced dirty filters and cleaned the brush roller. If you still need to contact SEBO, please have your serial number (found on the underneath side of the power head), name of dealer, and date of purchase details available. Without proof of purchase, repairs may be chargeable.

SEBO's repair procedure is easy and convenient. Repairs that are covered under warranty are done free of charge, and SEBO even pays related freight costs. For machines that are not covered under warranty, SEBO charges customers very reasonable repair fees, plus associated freight costs.

The repair procedure is as follows:
  1. Call customer service at 800-334-6614, to discuss the problem. The outcome of the call should be one of these three options:

    1. The problem is diagnosed over the phone, and the customer service representative provides a "self-help" solution, e.g., clog removal.
    2. A referral is made to a local authorized SEBO retail store, which can provide the needed repair services.
    3. The determination is made that the machine must be repaired at SEBO's corporate office in Centennial, Colorado. If this is the case, customer service will issue a Return Material Authorization number ("RMA") and a prepaid UPS Return Label.
  2. Package for shipment that portion of the vacuum which SEBO's customer service representative instructs you to return, e.g., the power head, the bag housing, or may be the entire vacuum. Affix the UPS Return Label to the outside of the box.
  3. Leave the box at any UPS Store, pick-up location, or drop-off station.
SEBO receives returned machines within three to five days, and the repairs are usually completed on the same day. Then, the vacuum is returned via UPS. Therefore, the entire repair process typically takes about two weeks. If faster transit times are needed, SEBO can accommodate such requests, but customers are charged the additional amount of freight costs associated with the specified expedited freight service.
