TILED PILLOW

Create this fun and easy tiled pillow – the decorative stitching is all done by embroidery machine – in four fun-to-stitch tiles. This pillow features an exposed zipper back, and can be easily adapted to almost any color palette. You’ll also learn how to apply what you learn to other tiling projects. This project is compatible with any machine with an embroidery capability of 5.5” x 5.5”

OESD Tiled Pillow Supply List

Fabrics:

•½ yard dark fabric

            Two Tiles - Cut 2 pieces fabric 15” x 10” or large enough to hoop

Pillow Borders - Cut 2 pieces 2” x 15”, Cut 2 pieces 2” x 18”

•3/4 yard light fabric

            Two Tiles – Cut 2 pieces fabric 10” x 15” or large enough to hoop

            Pillow Back - Cut 2 pieces 13” x 14”

Stabilizers:

4 pieces OESD HeavyWeight Tear Away 10” x 15” or large enough to hoop

4 pieces OESD Ultra Clean and Tear Away 10” x 15” or large enough to hoop

Notions:

14” zipper to match or contrast with light fabric for pillow back

14” square batting

Threads:

Embroidery Thread in seven colors; light, medium, dark in each of two coordinating colors and white, variegated colors would also work well.

60 wt. Bobbin thread

50 wt construction thread

Thread to quilt front of pillow

Temporary Adhesive Spray

Embroidery Needles 75/11, Microtex 80, or Topstitch 90

Bobbin wound with 60 wt. bobbin thread

Bobbin wound (25% full or less) with construction thread

OESD EZ Snips or thread trimming scissors

Wonder Clips, straight pins

Point Presser/Clapper

Embroidery Machine in good working order

Embroidery Hoop (Large enough for 5 ½ x 5 ½ inch design) and/or length greater than 11 ½ inches (>310 mm) to embroider two 5.5 squares at a time.

Embroidery Foot, zig zag foot, piping or welting foot (optional)
