My First Quilt



A beginner quilt class for Teens and 'Tweens. The Butterfly Mosaic Quilt is lap sized 44.5" x 52.5". You will learn the steps of modern quilt making by machine and the latest tools. This quilt can be completed in about 4 weeks with some "homework" between classes.  If you are just starting out in the quilting world, and between the ages of 11-18,  then this is a great starter quilt.  The finished project will be beautiful and something that you will be very proud of.  Let Cheryl help you along the way to completion with this gorgeous quilt.

SUPPLIES/MATERIALS LIST:
Sewing Machine, Power Cord, Foot Control and Machine Manual
8 - 10 Fat Quarters (18" x 22" pieces) (I used turquoise) any color but medium value for good contrast for Butterfly Wings
1 Fat Quarter (18" x 22" piece) (I used black/gray) any dark color for Butterfly Body
1 yard Background (sky blue) any color but should be lighter than Butterfly add 1/2 yard more if you want your binding the same
3-1/4 yards Backing (Light Blue) there will be enough for binding if you like (class 3/4)
Batting: Cotton preferred, at least 54" x 60" (class 3/4)
Extra Large YoYo Maker and two 5.5" squares of black fabric OR two 1-3/4" Black Buttons for Eyes (class 4)
Jumbo Rick Rack (black) (about 20") for antennae (class 2)
45mm Rotary Cutter w/ new sharp blade and Cutting Mat
Straight Pins
Needles: extra for machine and hand sewing - long basting and sharps
Small scissors or thread snips
Rulers: Quilter's Ruler (about 6" x 24"), nice to have Quilter's Magic Wand and Tucker Trimmer 1
Feet: 1/4" Quilter's Piecing Foot ( all classes) and Even Feed Foot or Walking Foot (need for class 3/4)
Seam Ripper
Bobbins 4 or more
Sharp Pencil
Sew Slip II (nice to have - week 3/4) - makes machine quilting a little easier
All purpose Threads - neutral color for piecing, and (butterfly wing color, butterfly body color and background color (need these for class 3).
