Quilted Jacket with Lisa Magnuson

 Class Schedule

1. January 13, 1-4pm
2. January 27, 1-4pm
3. February 24, 1-4pm
4. March 10, 1-4pm

Loosely following the Beachcomber pattern by Laundry Basket Quilts, you will make a beautiful, quilted jacket, customizing it to make it your own.  Our class is broken down into four sessions.  The in-class and at-home schedule is as follows:

Class One (January 13, 1-4pm)

• Deconstruct your sweatshirt.  Using paper shapes, decide on what blocks you will use to make your jacket and how many of each.
• Using scrap fabric, make one small and one large block using the sawtooth star design
• Homework:  Make your blocks

Class Two (January 27, 1-4pm)

• Lay out all your blocks onto your jacket pieces
• Learn how the pieces will be sewn together to fit onto each jacket piece
• Begin to sew individual jacket pieces (front left, front right, back, two sleeves)
• Home work:  Continue this at home until you have all of your jacket pieces designed and sewn together

Class Three (February 24, 1-4pm)

• Begin to quilt each piece of your jacket
• Discuss how your jacket will be reconstructed 
• Learn how to bind your jacket
• Homework:  Quilt each piece of your jacket

Class Four (March 10, 1-4pm)

• Work on final details of your jacket that you have had problems with at home
• Reconstruct your jacket by sewing pieces together
• Enjoy a Quilted Jacket party and fashion show as everyone models their handiwork

Supplies:

For first class

• Zip up sweatshirt (two sizes larger than normally worn)
• Fabric scraps to practice making your blocks

Approximate fabric needs for jacket (you can gather this after the first class)

• 30 fat eighths (9” x 20”) of multi-color dark fabric
• 7 quarter yards (9” x WOF) of light fabric
• 2½ yards of lining (if desired)
• 1/4 yard fabric for binding
