Double Scalloped Madeira Tea Towel

Everybody loves pretty tea towels to use in guest bathrooms, and to make (or receive) as gifts., This elegant towel can be created in a lacy “heart” beat for those special people on your list who love handmade things. Using wash away magic Madeira techniques and heart lace shaping above a border of beautiful Madeira scalloping, this is an easy and beautiful project to make and to give. One of Martha’s favorite hemstitches, the pinstitch or Madeira stitch, is used to stitch the fancy, double-scalloped Madeira border in place; using a larger needle for the stitching creates the characteristic “holes” along the stitching line, like a tiny row of entredeux. You will want to make several of these to keep on hand for gift giving.
